Pulling over to Victory, Chase rightly insists that Sharpe enter the
boat before him, the Captain being last in and first out, but asks
Sharpe to leave the boat before him.

Chase tells Nelson he impressed crew from an Indianman. I thought
Indiaman crew were immune to the press.

I expect *they* thought so too!

I think this was more a convention, rather than an absolute no-no. I guess in times of emergency, a
naval captain could impress anyone he wanted to.

The East India Company carried a lot of political clout, and would doubtless complain bitterly about
the loss of their men, but if Chase could justify his action, he could probably rely on the
Admiralty to back him.
